 Creative Investment? What’s the idea?
In 2005, graffiti artist, David Choe, chose to take stock options instead of cash payment for doing graffiti work in the Palo Alto office of Facebook. Choe was offered thousands of dollars in payment or the equivalent in stock options. Choe took the stock options and they are valued at 200 million dollars at IPO. David Choe also took a risk. Facebook could have been a bust. Luckily for Choe, it wasn’t. He’s $200,000,000 richer.
DesignersCouch has taken this premise and put structure to it. We’ve created the ability for these type of investments to take place.
What’s a Creative Investment?
You exchange your creative work for equity in a startup. Much like an angel investor seeds a startup with cash, you seed a startup with creative work that has a dollar value attached to it. An investment in a startup is a risk whether it be financial or dollar-valued creative properties.
What does a Creative Investment look like?
A Creative Investment can be however you and the entrepreneur work out your deal. But here are a couple of examples:

Even the best of us have bad days. Sometimes things inside and outside of our control go badly. It happens. If it bothers you, you can either allow it to fester and you can dwell on what went wrong, or you can turn to positive outlets. One of the best and most enduring ways to get over these rough spots is by surrounding yourself with positive people. These people—whether they’re design colleagues, friends who don’t know the first thing about the business, or an encouraging spouse—can help you keep perspective on what really matters. They can also help you quickly get over your professional problems and thicken your skin so you can move on and create.
These are the first four ways for designers to manage clients and develop a thick skin. Join me here at DesignersCouch soon for some more great ways you can get over the rough patches and keep creating!
There are so many great articles on the web today and most of them are left undiscovered by the bigger part of the Design community. This maybe due to the increasing number of list posts, tutorials and like. However I think this will shed some light upon these articles and motivate us to write better and publish great and useful content. facilisis est eget Sed consectetuer.
